Gymnastics: West Chester at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA-The West Chester Rams and Springfield College Pride’s Sunday meet was a sendoff for Seniors Gabby Christ, Kelsey Price, and former gymnast Kristin Feliu, as well as a day in which West Chester tied their school record of 191.825. WCU’s Majesta Valentine set a new school record in the All Around of 39.075 after sweeping all four events. SC for their part tied their season best of 186.80 on a day filled with personal bests.

Valentine’s 9.725 won Vault outright with fellow WCU gymnast Selena Swanger coming in second with a 9.675.

Their teammates Samantha Engle and Lindsey Mathis finished third and fourth with a 9.625 and a 9.6 respectively. Heather Gomes lead Springfield on Vault with a personal best of 9.55. SC’s Madison Bowen set a personal high and Nicole Silva tied hers when they each hit a 9.5. Christ also set a personal best in her last Blake Arena meet with a 9.3.

 

Valentine also swung to a 9.725 for the Bars win. SC’s Briana Kerr set a new personal best of 9.675 to take second.

 

WCU’s Meghan Brannon was third with her 9.625.

SC’s Ashley Parchinski scored a 9.4 for a personal best as well, and Jessica Clemens hit her release on a way to a new personal high of 9.175 as well.

On Beam Valentine’s 9.8 led a rotation that swept the first five places for the Rams and broke the school beam record with a total 48.3 tally. Lindsay Knapp scored a 9.775, and Swanger had a 9.625 for second and third.

Parchinski’s 9.4 was the best for the Pride on the day. Linda McAuley also set a new personal best.

On Floor, Valentine hit her 9.825 to win it, followed by Knapp’s 9.725 and Emily Loughery’s 9.65. Silva flipped to a 9.625 to lead the Pride. Marissa DeAngelo tied her personal high of 9.6 as well. Olivia Morrell set a new personal high on the afternoon as well.

 

The steady DeAngelo posted a 37.825 good enough for second in the All Around compiling a 9.475 on Vault, 9.375 on Bars, and a 9.375 on Beam in addition to her floor.

Christ and Price were generous enough to speak about the day.

West Chester hosts a five team meet next Friday in Philadelphia. Springfield travels to Ursinus next Saturday in a meeting of two NCGA East region teams.
