Towson edges Bridgeport. Brown opens strong.

PROVIDENCE, RI- Longtime reigning ECAC Division 1 Champions Towson came up to Providence to take on the current ECAC Division 2 and USAG Champions the Bridgeport Purple Knights, and the host Brown Bears who were looking to make some waves this season as well. The meet was delayed due to an equipment mishap but when the meet began it was a close affair with no team knowing who had taken the meet until the final announcement. When the chalk dust cleared, Towson’s 191.050 was good for 1st, Bridgeport posted a 190.100 and Brown a 188.050.


UB’s Lorraine Galow won the all around with a 38.575, Emily Lutfey from Brown was second with a 38.300, and UB’s Monica Mesalles had a 38.125.

Towson’s Avis Hixon won the Vault with her 9.850 score, Mesalles was second scoring a 9.825, and Towson’s Kacy Catanzaro was 3rd with a 9.750. On the Uneven Bars, Catanzaro’s 9.675 was the best score of the meet, Purple Knights Natalie Saimeri and Galow had 9.650s, and Alexa Davis of Towson’s 9.625 was the third best score.

On Beam, Bridgeport’s Emily Repko scored the highest with a 9.700, Brown’s Victoria Zanelli and Towson’s Davis had 9.6s, and Catanzaro posted a 9.575. On the Floor, Mesalles and Hixon each had 9.850, Britney Russell of Towson had a 9.825, and Emily Lutfey of Brown had a 9.800.

New Towson Coach Vicki Chliszczyk picked up a win in her first meet as head coach, and Brown coach Sara Carver-Milne was excited for their performance in the opening meet. UB Coach Byron Knox commented on the positives and negatives of the day as well.
