HAMDEN, CT- While both the Delaware State and Quinnipiac had played a game earlier Saturday, the Hornets had done so up in Hartford and were now down in the shadow of the sleeping giant to take on QU in the unique environs of Kahn court and its cheering section. Renee Arnold’s Hornets were searching for their first win of the season against the Robin Sparks coached Bobcats. It would be a close one, but the visitors would pick up the 3-0 sweep to close out their appearance at Hartford and Quinnipiac’s tournament.

WEST HARTFORD, CT- The Hartford Hawks swept the Delaware State Hornets three sets to 1 this Saturday during one of the many matches of the Hartford/Quinnipiac tournament. Coach Don Ferguson’s Hawks had the early morning session before hosting La Salle that night. Renee Arnold’s Hornets hopped on a bus after the match and headed down to Quinnipiac for an evening contest.
When I arrived early that morning Hartford was just narrowly wrapping up a victory in set number 1. Set number 2 opened up with 5 straight Hartford points thanks to two aces from Dionna Kirton which sandwiched a Michelle Cordell kill. Jackie Tamburri had a set to the a gap in the Delaware State line, and a cross court kill from Kami Nethersole finished the run. The two teams traded errors, and Tamburri and Cordell each netted a point to put their team up 8-1.
Delaware State vs. Penn State (at Yale) 9-15-07
As luck would have it, I arrived a bit late on the beautiful Yale campus and by the time I arrived Penn State Nittany Lions had already pulled out to a two game lead over the Delaware State Hornets. However it was still great to see a ranked team in action, or any team for that matter, but its fun to see the teams that aren’t often in the region.
