Women’s Volleyball: Hartford and CCSU go 5 sets.

NEW BRITAIN, CT- The Hartford Hawks and Central Connecticut State Blue Devils sit fairly close to each other separated only by a drive across a Hartford suburb creating a logical reason to face off often. On this evening Linda Sagnelli’s CCSU team would find Don Ferguson’s visiting squad taking them to five sets, after the Devils lead 2-0 to open things up. In the decisive fifth set Central would hold on to take the set and match in front of a pretty energetic crowd at Detrick Gym.

Women’s Volleyball: Holy Cross at Central Connecticut

NEW BRITAIN, CT- The Central Connecticut Blue Devils hosted the Holy Cross Crusaders Wednesday night in Detrick Gymnasium in a non conference affair. The purple clad visitors made it a fight but in the end CCSU took a 3 set win.

The scoring began when Jennifer Waddill received a set from CCSU Setter Danielle Gasser and knocked it in for a kill, 2 more points would follow and CCSU was building a lead. Cross picked up two points including a kill from Alicia Swearingen, but this time Gasser set the ball up for Sara DeLacey who smashed it home. Kathleen Colpoys returned fire for the Crusaders with a whap off a defender and out of bounds, though CCSU’s lead would increase to 6-3 due to some of HC miscues.

Women’s Volleyball: CCSU v. Bucknell

NEW BRITAIN, CT-The Bucknell Bison were one of the three visiting teams to take part in Central Connecticut State University’s tournament and Saturday afternoon they faced the tournament hosts in a very hot Detrick Gymnasium at CCSU. The result would be a 5 set battle royale between the two teams that needed even more points than normal to settle. In the end Linda Sagnelli’s Blue Devils took the narrow win over the Cindy Opalski coached Bison team in a razor thin contest.

Set 1 would go to Bucknell 23-25, as the Bison got out to an early big lead and held on despite a late CCSU charge. The two teams played to a 7-7 including a block from Bucknell’s Anne Ellenberger and Kyleigh McAhren. For CCSU, Sara Delacey had an early kill at the net, Blaike King launched a missile, and later added two more points. Read the rest of this entry

Women’s Volleyball: Long Island tops CCSU in thriller 3 to 2

NEW BRITAIN, CT- The Long Island University Blackbirds, always a dangerous team in the NEC conference, came up to Detrick Gymnasium to take on the Central Connecticut Blue Devils. Women’s Volleyball: CCSU tops Quinnipiac 3-0 in hard fought contest

NEW BRITAIN, CT- The Quinnipiac Bobcats and Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils did volleybattle in New Britain Saturday afternoon, and also honored the Dig Pink initiative to collect donations and support in the fight against Breast Cancer. In the end Central would take a 3 to 0 win however it was a hard fought match set by set and point by point between NEC foes. Linda Sagnelli’s Blue Devils and Robin Sparks’ Bobcats gave the crowd a lot to talk about throughout the afternoon.
