Women’s Hockey: Brown tops Yale

New Haven, CT- In a clash of ECAC and Ivy League foes Brown took on Yale on Wednesday Night. It was a game in which Yale spent a great deal of time in the Brown end pressuring and prodding, trying to get the puck past Katie Jamieson. Early in the first a Yale goal was waved off after protests from the Brown bench. The visitors meanwhile got on the board first when Janice Yang swept in on Jaimie Leonoff and got it past the Yale keeper at 11:36. At the time no assists were announced but they were later awarded to Katelyn Landry and Paige Pyett. The score remained 1-0 until less than a minute to play in the period when Brown’s Lauren Vella teed up a shot from near the blue line and it got past the keeper anyway. Brown entered the second period up 2-0. Landry and Jessica Hoyle were given assists on that goal as well.

Women’s Volleyball: Brown vs. Hartford

FAIRFIELD, CT- Less than an hour after dropping a narrow match to Rutgers, Coach Diane Short’s Brown team was back in action versus Don Ferguson’s Hartford Hawks. The Bears exploded out of the gate with a 4-0 lead, Hartford got on the board, but two points from Maddie Lord put the score at 6-2. Kami Nethersole responded for the Hawks with two points, but Brown picked up two more including Lord serving up an ace. Nethersole sent another kill in and it was 8-5 Brown.

The Bears however scored 4 straight points including Emma Pastore’s big kill and it was soon 12-6. Nethersole responded again, but Pastore and Kathryn Glickman picked up 2 more kills for Brown. Soon the score was 16-8.

Women’s Volleyball: Brown vs. Rutgers

FAIRFIELD, CT- It would take five sets, and extra points in two of those sets to settle it, but the Rutgers Scarlet Knights narrowly defeated the Brown Bears in midday action at the SHU tournament on Saturday. The Ivy League Bears, coached by Diane Short, took on CJ Werneke’s  Big East residing team in each team’s first match of the day.

In Set 1 the two teams volleyed to a 6-6 tie to start things off. This included RU’s Alex Jones picked up the first kill of the game, Brown’s Annika Gliottone served up an early ace, and Hannah Curtis of Rutgers had a kill from the net. The two continues trading points including RU’s Sofi Cucuz adding a kill just in bounds. The score was soon tied at 10-10, though RU started to build a little lead thanks to a some light tap points from Jones and Curtis, but Brown tied it back up at 14.

A light block from Emma Pastore of Brown helped her team take a 14-17 lead. Rutgers started to try to claw back but Brown kept going, with Maddie Lord adding a smash through the defense, Kathryn Glickman picking up a block, and Lord striking yet again to get the score to 17-21. Rutgers tried to get back into it, but a Thea Derrough kill which flew off the RU defenders got her team another point and helped keep the lead at 3. Jones and Cucuz picked up a late block for the Knights, but it would eventually be Lord’s service ace that ended the set 20-25 to give Brown a 1-0 lead.

Women’s Volleyball: Brown vs. Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT- The Sacred Heart Pioneers hosted the second game of their tournament on Friday night and welcomed in from hills of Providence, the Brown Bears of the Ivy League. Coach Rob Machan’s SHU team would sweep Diane Short’s Bears to take the match.

The two teams got off to a fairly even start in Set 1 trading points back and forth before Brown pulled out to an early lead of 3-7. The Pioneers cut the lead to 7-8 with a run, though this was ended abruptly by Brown’s Maddie Lord smashing the ball over the net to regain a two point lead, followed by another pair of points including Thea Derrough landing a kill just in bounds. Elise Sage responded for Sacred Heart with a tap over the net for a point to keep the lead at only 3, though Brown extended it again by one.

UNH Hosts Michigan State, Alaska Anchorage, and Brown 2-12-11

DURHAM, NH- The UNH Wildcats hosted their annual invitational and Michigan State, Brown, and Alaska arrived to take part in the meet Saturday night. New Hampshire would pick up first place scoring a 194.650, Michigan State had a 193.425, Brown picked up a 191.500 elating Coach Carver-Milne, and her alma mater Alaska scored a 190.475.
