Temple and Rutgers Meet Preview

Temple Owls at Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Livingston Gymnasium, Piscataway, New Jersey 7pm Wednesday, January 27th
(Scores from Troester and some eyewitness accounts)

Wins and losses are one thing, but so is one’s place in the rankings, but all the same Rutgers hopes to defeat the entire city of Philadelphia in the span of just 5 days as Coach Aaron Murphy’s Temple team will make the brief trip up to Piscataway. Coach Chrystal Chollet-Norton’s Scarlet Knights defeated Penn in Philly on Saturday. The Owls will likely be disinterested in giving RU the pleasure of sweeping the city’s teams though. Both teams are very close in scoring and rankings so it should be a close meet. While Rutgers competes in the EAGL and Temple is in the ECAC, both teams are in the USAG Collegiate Division as well which is open to teams with a limited number of scholarships. Rutgers currently sits second in the USAG rankings and Temple is right behind them at 3. Temple continues to lead #4 Bridgeport in the rankings despite falling to the Purple Knights just days ago at Ursinus. Both teams have had a busy few days.

UNH 193.850, Brown 186.400, SCSU 184.925, MIT Club 153.700

(Scores from Eyewitness Account, Official Sources)

PROVIDENCE, RI- A unique meet to say the least took place this Sunday at Brown’s Pizzitola Sports Center. The Division 1 Ivy League Brown Bears hosted the Division 2 Southern Connecticut State University Owls, Division 1 and top 36 team, the UNH Wildcats, and the formerly Division 3 and now club team, the MIT Engineers. Brown and SCSU are also both part of the USAG Collegiate Nationals Division as well, which is a separate ranking system for teams with limited scholarships. UNH took the victory as expected with a 193.850 posting their highest road score of the season after a 195.00 set at home in Durham last week. After losing narrowly to SCSU the week before in New Haven, Brown took the win over the Owls with a 186.400 to Southern’s 184.925. Both scores reflected scoring improvements from the week before however. MIT is now competing without the support mechanism of varsity status, but still put five gymnasts on the floor and scored a 153.700 which is not a bad score considering the circumstances.

Men’s Basketball: Maine tops Hartford 77-69 in 3 point filled game.

By David F. P.

WEST HARTFORD, CT- Head Coach Ted Woodward led his Maine Black Bears into Chase Family Arena on the UHart campus, looking to continue the team’s winning streak at the expense of Dan Leibovitz’s Hartford Hawks. His team would succeed by narrowly despite what the final score reported. The game would be a shootout with each side sending their 3 point shooters into the fray and it at times three point shots were all that were being taken.
