Providence ties Connecticut in Women’s Hockey, wins shootout.

STORRS, CT-The Providence Friars, coached by Bob Deraney, made the trek down to from RI to take on the Connecticut Huskies, coached by Heather Linstad, on a sunday afternoon, and both teams battled to a 1-1 tie, resulting in a shootout which Providence won. Shootout victories only count in conference standings, not national standings.

STORRS, CT-It took three periods, an overtime, and a shootout after Providence and UConn tied, and PC topped the Huskies in a shootout.
Pittsburgh tops UConn Volleyball in 3 sets at Gampel
It was senior day at UConn but the Pitt Panthers topped the Huskies in 3 straight sets this afternoon.

Robert Morris edges Central Connecticut State 3-2 in Volleyball on Saturday

NEW BRITAIN, CT- A key Northeast Conference match up between the Robert Morris Colonials and the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils unfolded on CCSU’s home gym last evening going all the way to five sets before it was decided. Linda Sagnelli’s Blue Devils had had their conference undefeated streak snapped by Long Island two weeks ago followed by a conference loss to Sacred Heart, but a win over Fairleigh Dickinson with a out of conference loss to Rhode Island also occurring within that span. Rob Thomas’s Colonials arrived with 6-3 conference record compared to Central’s 7-2 and both are one of four teams in the NEC with a winning conference record. Although Central won their last meeting on the road, RMU would pick up the win giving both teams the same record in NEC play.

Opinion: Thoughts from Rentschler Field: Rutgers at UConn, and another farewell to Jasper Howard.

My policy is to cover all sports as impartially as possible, but I make an exception for football. I basically cheer on the local teams because basically it’s fun to be able to cheer at games rather than just take notes, and as an alum at UConn I’m entitled.
EAST HARTFORD, CT-Rentschler Field may have not been filled to the brim like Coach Edsall had requested happen at 11:30 but by 11:45 the stadium was really filling up in time for the pregame activities. To honor slain player Jasper Howard was the first order of business today, and many fans had arrived clad in a shirt bearing his number, and others brought signs, while most carried the card with number 6 emblazoned on it. Howard was honored multiple times prior to kick off with an opening musical tribute by the marching band (all wearing number 6 as well) as a sea of 6′s were raised to the sky. Later as both teams streamed on the field and teammates carried Howard’s jersey and helmet onto the field of play the 6′s rose again. A moment of silence soon followed. An additional tribute came during each UConn touchdown as instead of the word UConn the spirit squad carried the letter’s JAZZ and 6 onto the field replacing the U! C! O! N! N! Chant with J! A! Z! Z!.
